The U.S. National Cancer Institute Acknowledges That Marijuana Kills Tumour Cells

  • It was something that we already knew and that numerous researchers had proven a long time ago. Nevertheless, this decision is a positive step forward, another towards progressive legalisation and the acceptance of medical cannabis.

The website of the U.S. National Cancer Institute has been updated in order to show that cannabinoids in marijuana help to eliminate cancer by killing damaged cells within the organism, while also protecting healthy ones. This change in information amounts to a great advance and another small step that can be added to all of those taken until now in support of the plant.

The Institute’s webpage explains that different laboratory experiments carried out on mice have shown that these cannabinoids have positive results and can “be useful” when treating the side effects of the illness. For example, among other things they help to reduce pain, stimulate appetite and prevent the growth of diseased cells and blood vessels that supply the tumours.

On the other hand, they note that in addition to combatting inflammation caused by colon cancer, cannabinoids have the potential to help prevent the illness and to act against other types of tumours such as those found in breasts, the liver, or lungs. The Institute specifies that when CBD is administered at the same time as chemotherapy, it can make the latter process more effective.

However, the institute shows caution and clarifies that as things stand, testing has not been carried out on humans with regard to directly treating the problem. Nevertheless; it has indeed been used for combatting nausea and vomiting as well as controlling insomnia and anxiety among other things. In fact, there are already marijuana based medicines available for some of these problems.

Whatever the case, making this type of information public is a great step forward that contributes to ensuring that an increasing number of people are aware of the benefits of medical cannabis and its possible uses. Now doctors and researchers who have been talking about the issue for years have a visible source of support.
