Miss Cannabis: A Movie Set on a Medical Cannabis Farm

  • This is the latest movie to feature actress Melanie Griffith, and it is to be set on a therapeutic cannabis plantation. Despite the title, the film's focus will not actually be on grass. It is still early in the production phase, and a release date has not yet been scheduled.

After movies like Night Moves, Fear City, Paradise and Born Yesterday, the American actress Melanie Griffith got involved in Miss Cannabis, her new film and latest project since her break-up with actor Antonio Banderas.

In Miss Cannabis the actress stars in the true story of a multimillionaire who, having lost her fortune, is forced to leave everything behind. Along the way, she comes across what she believes is a vineyard, but is actually a medical cannabis farm.

Vineyards?

The feature-length film is currently in the pre-production stage and, although the story is supposed to take place in California, the producers are looking for growing sites in Colorado, where Griffith owns a home and the government has approved the production, offering it financial incentives worth some 600,000 dollars, (about 540,000 euros) to film in the state.

The state's Film Commissioner, Donald Zuckerman, clarified that the plot does not revolve around marijuana, despite the film's title. Its premiere date has not yet been announced.

Griffith - the daughter of Tippi Hedren (the protagonist of Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds) and the mother of Dakota Johnson, the actress starring in 50 Shades of Grey - was nominated for Best Actress in 1988 for her performance in Working Girl, and has also acknowledged on several occasions having smoked cannabis. After more than 30 years in the movie industry, it seems that her career is budding once again.
