- Cannabis, yielding profits of over 47 million USD/km2, is the world’s most profitable crop.
Even though marijuana is one of the crops grown on the least surface area in the world (only opium and coca occupy less) the elevated revenues from its sale make it the most profitable crop on Earth: 47,660,000 USD/km2, according to figures from the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the UN Office on Drugs and Crime.
After marijuana comes coca (over 37 million USD/km2, opium (6 million USD/km2), tomatoes, (1,415,000 USD/km2) and grapes (625,000 USD/km2).
The figures reveal that, although its grow is limited, the profits attainable through the sale of marijuana are extremely high.
