Whoopi Goldberg is the latest major film star to decide to enter the cannabis industry. Now 60, the woman who charmed the world with her role in Sister Act has decided to create the Whoopi & Maya Company to launch a line of products for relieving the period pains women suffer from.

“This was all inspired by my own experience from a lifetime of difficult periods and the fact that cannabis was literally the only thing that gave me relief,” the actress has admitted in a statement announcing this new project of hers. Goldberg has always been open about relying on the medical properties of cannabis to relieve her headaches.

Now, however, she has embarked on this entrepreneurial venture at the request of her grown granddaughters, who were in pain during their periods. Goldberg asked experts in the matter about the benefits of marijuana for such problems, also inquiring whether there were any products for this purpose in the market. After being told there were none, she decided to lend her support to this niche in the cannabis industry.

It is for this purpose that she has partnered with the entrepreneur Maya Elisabeth, who has founded a firm committed to creating cannabis food products. Backed by Maya’s experience and the initial investment of relatives and friends, the company intends to start launching its balms, bath soaps and edibles in April this year. The purpose involved is simply that of offering women an effective cannabis-based remedy that will, however, leave no other effect.

“For me, I feel like if you don’t want to get high, this is a product specifically just to get rid of discomfort. Smoking a joint is fine, but most people can’t smoke a joint and go to work,” the actress remarks. “This, you can put it in your purse. You can put the rub on your lower stomach and lower back at work, and then when you get home you can get in the tub for a soak or make tea,” she comments.

However, due to existing laws and restrictions, the products of the Whoopi & Maya firm will only be available, for the time being, to California users.
