Valencians are marijuana lovers, as demonstrated by the latest figures released by the Valencian Health Council.

The consumption of cannabis in this region is far above that of others: the rate stands at 7.7%, a full point above the national average, according to the results that the institution has published, based on the Home Survey on Alcohol and Drugs in Spain, which the Ministry of Health administers, questioning citizens ages 15 to 64.

This trend contrasts with the alcohol consumption data, which indicates that Valencians consume less alcohol than most Spaniards. Weekend binge drinking came in at 9.1% in the Comunitat, as compared to 15.5% nationally. The average age at which Valencians begin to drink spirits is 14, a finding similar to that from previous years.

All this data was analysed at an experts' workshop to coordinate and promote actions by the Community's Addictive Conduct Prevention Units (UPCCA).

These units feature over 100 professionals, and operate in 222 Valencian municipalities, covering 80.6% of the region’s people. According to the Community's health minister, 200,000 students have already participated in some preventive program to learn about the risks involved with any type of addictive substance.
