Sweden Legalizes Medical Marijuana For MS Patients

  • In Sweden the Medical Products Agency has announced they have approved medical marijuana for MS patients.

The current legalization of medicinal usage applies only to a cannabis-based mouth spray that can be used for the treatment of MS (multiple sclerosis). This specific spray, which has to be sprayed under the tongue, has been available in Spain and the UK for a longer period already and has been proven to be a successful remedy for the symptoms of MS. Although the product is legal now, the process for doctors to get a permit is still a very complicated one and the spray has to be imported to Sweden through a difficult procedure. The Agency warned they will make sure the possibility to prescribe this mouth spray will not be abused.

Since Sweden has voted for a drug-free policy in 1977, Sweden has been known for one of the strictest anti-drug policies in Europe when it comes to recreational usage of Cannabis. Sweden has not yet given any information about any further legalization of Cannabis.
