Inhaling cannabis oil, Butane Hash Oil (BHO) through butane gas extraction, a method known as 'dabbing', is becoming trendy, according to a recent study published in the magazine 'Pediatrics'.

"We have been seeing an emergence of dabs over the last three years" stated John Stogner, co-author of the study and professor of Criminology at North Carolina University. According to the researcher, in addition to the novelty factor, the appeal of 'dabbing' is that the BHO is felt much more quickly and strongly. "At a minimum, dabs are four times as strong as a joint, and the high is administered all at once", explained Stogner. The oil, that has a texture similar to honey, stands out as its concentrations are much higher than tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), indeed up to 99% higher.

In reality, this is not a new practice: it emerged in the 70's; however 'dabbing' has only become popular over the last few years. Solid proof of this can be found through the large number of videos on the internet that explain how to extract it in order to inhale the smoke thanks to a butane lighter or a blowtorch.

The information disseminated across social media and videos as well as the legalisation of marijuana in some states in the U.S. could be some of the reasons why 'dabbing' has become an increasingly popular method among cannabis lovers. However, Stogner warns than beginners should be very careful during the extraction process, as small explosions or fires can occur. Taking all of the precautions and following the available guidelines from so many consumers across the world, lots of people will certainly continue to join this trend.
